Santee Cooper Solar Incentive

Santee Cooper Solar Incentive, best in SC!Santee Cooper Solar Incentive

Homeowners who live in a Santee Cooper service area should pay close attention to this announcement. The Santee Cooper Solar Incentive that was recently approved in 2017 has made it the most attractive utility incentive in the state. For a limited time, when you switch to solar energy for your home, Santee Cooper will pay you an early adopter incentive of $1.60 per installed watt of solar energy to a maximum total payout of $9,600.00. This is no joke!

It’s almost too good to be true.

Here is how the incentive works;

  1. Have a solar energy system installed at your home
  2. Receive $1.60 per installed watt up to a maximum of 6 kW (AC) or $9,600.
  3. Receive a check from the utility 30-45 days after installation

Why would they offer this?

1- Santee Cooper is the largest supplier of power in our state. They are an environmentally conscience company and believe in green, renewable energy.

2- Federal mandates require energy producers to shift a portion of their energy production to renewables by year 2020. Its simple math… they have to have these renewables and its cheaper for them to pay a small amount to homeowners versus spending millions to build mega solar farms.

Wait…there is more!

Federal and State Solar Tax Credits will cover 55% of the cost of your system. Our current program offers $0 cost upfront for equipment purchase and installation. Solar loan programs spread low monthly payments out over time to be just like paying a power bill.  There are multiple options available and someone from South Carolina Solar will be happy to discuss these options with you and see which one is the best fit for you.

    The Truth About Solar

    Solar is booming in SC.

The combination of lower prices, advancements in solar technology and friendly incentives,  has made the future look bright for solar in South Carolina. South Carolina Solar will help educate you on the process of switching and  enlighten you on the truth about solar.

    Don’t be fooled…

The truth is that Solar is an easy decision to make when the numbers make sense. Beware of salesmen telling you everything you want to hear to make a sale. Solar companies are not contractors for your local utility. These false statements are being presented to homeowners in our communities. The information on this page will help you understand the process of switching to solar.

People say, “Solar is too expensive”

Solar has actually come down 80% in cost in recent years. When solar is a fit then the cost to switch is next to nothing. In fact, if you can pay your electric bill then you can afford solar.

Here is how; when you switch to solar, the electricity you currently buy from your utility can now be produced by your solar system for free. The Sun’s energy is being collected and sold back to the utility at retail. This effectively cancels out your purchases and allows you to reallocate the money towards your solar hardware.

Its pretty nifty. Solar doesn’t increase your monthly cost, it replaces it!

    Roof Space

If you are one of the many homeowners in South Carolina that have the available roof space for solar panels, then you could be a fit. The average household energy consumption in South Carolina is higher than that in other states. Solar allows you to replace the energy you are buying dollar-for-dollar. In other words, it doesn’t create a new expense but instead replaces one you already have.

    Roof Orientation

Solar panels can be installed on a roof, ground mounted or a custom pergola can be constructed to accommodate the system.

Orientation plays a role in how many solar panels are necessary to offset your electric bill. Recent advancements in solar technology make multiple orientations and levels of shading viable options for solar installation.

    HOA Approval

Currently the State of South Carolina has NO Solar Access or Solar Rights Law. This means that the Home Owners Association can have a say in the locations that panels can be installed. But don’t worry, this is a painless part of the process that South Carolina Solar will handle on your behalf. When you decide to make the switch, we will handle everything from HOA approval, permitting and final inspections while you sit back and relax.

    Solar Tax Credits

The Federal Solar Tax Credit currently covers 30% of the overall cost of your system. You will apply for the credit on your first tax return after installing the solar energy system on your home. Here is the thing; if you don’t pay tax, you will not get a credit. If you normally have to pay money at the end of each year then this credit will offset the amount you would normally pay. You can receive up to the FULL amount of this refund in your first filing. This credit can be used over multiple years so you won’t lose it.

The State Solar Tax Credit currently covers 25% of the overall cost of your system. You will apply for the credit on your first tax return after installing the solar energy system on your home. Like the Federal Solar Tax Credit, if you don’t pay state tax, you will not get a credit.  Unlike the Federal Solar Tax Credit, your South Carolina State Solar Tax Credit is limited to receiving a maximum of $3500 per year OR 50% of your state tax liability. The state will allow the lower of the two to be used.  This credit can be used over multiple years so you won’t lose it.

A project manager from South Carolina Solar will help you determine how you can qualify for these incredible incentives.

    Lease or Purchase?

Which option is best for your home? While leasing solar might provide some short term savings, there are many long term disadvantages you need to consider. Purchasing your solar system through finance or cash allows you own the system & take advantage of many benefits over time.

    Solar Lease

Although leasing is an option, this is not an option that we recommend for installing solar. When you lease solar, you are not able to take advantage of the many benefits and incentives that are currently available.

    Solar Ownership

The truth about Solar ownership is that this option tends to make the most sense for many South Carolina homeowners. When you purchase a Solar Energy System for your home, you are investing into a home improvement that will actually pay for itself time and time again.

Here are some benefits of Solar ownership:

    • Solar loan programs allow you to purchase your system for $0 down and spread the payments for your Solar hardware over an extended period of time to mimic your monthly utility payment.
    • Solar ownership will allow you to convert a bill into an asset that will pay you back time and time again.
    • When you purchase Solar you say goodbye to energy payment increases forever.
    • When you make your last hardware payment you are done paying for Solar and you are done paying for power. No Bill!
    • Owning your Solar panels will add value to your home.
    • Installation quality is much better and close attention is paid to the aesthetics of the installation
